Jazz 1 Auditions

Auditions due by May 8th, 2026

When you forecast for classes:
8th graders forecast for "Intermediate Jazz Band".
9th-11th graders forecast for your current jazz band.

If you are auditioning for Jazz 1 (Adv. Jazz Band), do not forecast for this class.
After auditions, I will have your schedule changed to the appropriate band.

Concert Bb Blues, Bb Mixolydian and Bb Dorian Scales
12 bar Blues solo with backing track (needs to be audible in the recording)
Jazz All City Swing Etude (at a tempo that is comfortable for you)

BASS ONLY

Concert Bb Blues, Bb Mixolydian and Bb Dorian Scales
Walking bass line with Bb Blues backing track (needs to be audible in the recording)
Jazz All City Swing Etude (at a tempo that is comfortable for you)

DRUMS ONLY - live auditions only

Transcribe the drum part to the recording of Vine St. Rumble
Vibes Jazz All City Etude (at a tempo that is comfortable for you)
On vibes: Bb Blues, Bb Mixolydian and Bb Dorian Scales

How to audition:
Record your audition materials and submit them via the submission button (audio or video)

Submit recordings no later than May 8th, 2026
- Record all materials in one video
- Label the file with your first and last name
OR
Schedule a time to play for Mrs. Stegner in person. (this will be done at your school during regular class time).

Other requirements:
Students placed in Jazz 1 must have good attendance, communication and stay academically eligible.
